Project Brief

Consulting engagement guiding a major European automotive OEM in strategically adopting AI-driven generative design and 3D printing processes, yielding measurable workflow efficiencies and sustainability benefits.

Challenges

A large European Automotive OEM through their technology innovation investment fund, was looking to answer the prompt: How can an automotive OEM measure sustainability impact on their manufacturing processes by incorporating 3D Printing?

Solution

I was entrusted to lead the team, leveraging my experience in advanced manufacturing strategy, research, and technology feasibility assessment, to comprehensively address the OEM's sustainability objectives.

Our recommended and vetted solution involved an innovative AI-powered workflow designed to identify optimal candidates from existing component inventories (Bill of Materials). Using generative design and additive manufacturing best practices, we outlined a systematic approach to restructuring parts effectively.

This solution was further strengthened through automated design-for-manufacturing (DFM) analysis simulations, detailed test-build scenarios, and rigorous backtesting steps, evaluating cost-effectiveness, production timelines, and sustainability performance against traditional manufacturing methods, thereby ensuring an optimal strategic direction for the OEM.
